PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A STUDENT VISA FOR AUSTRALIA
As Pakistan is a non-gazette country; students are required to undergo Preliminary Visa Assessment (PVA) at the Australian High Commission (AHC) before sending their tuition and other fees. Below is a step-wise procedure, currently being followed at Zest Consultants (ZC).
Step-1
You should obtain an “ Application for a Student (Temporary) Visa " , Form No. 157A, 1221Form and Family Composition Detail Form from Zest Consultants (ZC). Fill out these forms and attach the following documents with it:
- Copy of Offer Letter from the University/Institute.
- Original and One Set of Photocopies of academic records, marriage certificates (if any), work experience certificates (if any), etc. For documents in language other than English, attach translation with copy of the documents.
- Four recent passport-size photographs.
- Original valid passport (and any previous passports you may have).
- Evidence that you, your parents, grand parents or brothers and sisters have sufficient finances to cover your study, living expenses and incidental expenses in Australia. This evidence must include, but is not restricted to, account statements (computer printed) including transactions for the last the previous 12 months. Funds should have been held for at least 6 months prior to application lodgment. Fixed deposits/National Saving Certificate and Foreign Currency Deposits are also acceptable form of funding. A Bank Loan taken for study purposes is also acceptable. Also a covering letter from the Manager of the Bank where the account is held. These funds must cover the tuition fee, living expenses and incidental expenses. In addition to this, your sponsor has to show the evidence of source of income over the years. You should include other evidence of monthly income that is relevant and useful i.e. Company Stock Exchange Shares, agricultural income, business income, salary, pension, provident and GP funds, rental income, business investment etc.
- If you are currently employed, evidence of employment on return, and that your studies will be beneficial to your employment.
- In assessing whether you are a genuine applicant for entry and stay in Australia as a student, the Australian High Commission is required by law to consider your comprehension of English for the purpose of your course. You will be asked to provide an IELTS score (Original Result and Copy) as objective evidence of proficiency. This is the only method used by the Australian High Commission to assess your English language ability for the purpose of your course.
- A bank draft in the name of Australian High Commission, Islamabad.
- Statement of purpose, indemnity bond.
- One page summary (Student Visa Processing)
- An undertaking from parents that they are willing and able to support you and they have enough funds to support themselves and their other dependent children at the same time. Where applicable details of employment, marriage, independent status of other children etc should be provided. Submit / Send your visa application along with the above-mentioned documents to Zest Consultants. After receipt of your documents, it will take at least 8 to 10 weeks to process PVA. You will be contacted when a decision has been made or further information is required. When your PVA is approved by the AHC, you would be directed through letter, to deposit your tuition fee to the university/institute and complete your medical test.
Step-2
Once you have met all of the pre-requirements (including PVA), you should then send/submit the following to Zest Consultants.
- Original PVA Letter.
- All of the pre-requisites (if any) mentioned in the Offer Letter.
- Payment of fees and accommodation (if applicable) in A$ through an International Bank Draft (has to be drawn on an Australian Bank) e.g. Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Westpac Banking Corporation or Standard Chartered Grind lays Bank (Former ANZ Bank) in the name of the institute/university.
- Bank drafts from Habib Bank Ltd drawn on Habib Finance are not acceptable.
- Also arrange your Flight booking for travel to Australia arriving at the University on the date stated in your Offer Letter.
Step-3
When Zest Consultants receives the above documents, it will send you the following:
- A Confirmation of Enrolment or Acceptance Advice Form which confirms your enrolment into your course.
- A pre-departure guide which will help you with planning your travel to, any stay in , Australia.
- An Invoice for your on-campus accommodation (provided that you asked for this and provided there is availability).
- Payment receipts of tuition fee and Overseas Student Health Charges.
Note
Once Australian High Commission, Islamabad receives the copy of Confirmation of Enrollment from the University / Institution and your Medical Report from the Doctor then the Student Visa will be stamped on your passport.
